Crime Stoppers ACT continued its student focused Anti Money Laundering (AML) outreach last week with two highly successful pop up engagements at CIT Fyshwick and CIT Bruce. Delivered as part of the national AML campaign, these activations helped hundreds of students learn how organised crime groups target young people, especially international students, through job scams, social media approaches and deceptive financial offers.
Across both campuses, students were keen to understand how “money mule” recruitment works and what warning signs to look for. Many shared stories of suspicious messages or offers they had already received, highlighting just how widespread these tactics have become. Crime Stoppers ACT representatives provided practical advice and clear guidance on how to report concerns safely and anonymously.
The CIT pop ups formed an important part of our broader effort to reach students where they are: on campus, in their daily routines, and at moments when they’re making decisions about work, study and finances. By engaging directly with students at both Fyshwick and Bruce, Crime Stoppers ACT is helping build awareness, strengthen prevention and ensure young people feel confident recognising and avoiding the money trap.
