Answers Still Matter | Elizabeth Herfort
Elizabeth Herfort was 18 years old when she disappeared on the evening of 13 June 1980.
Elizabeth was last seen at the Australian National University Bar in Acton, where she had been socialising with friends. It was believed she left the venue to catch a bus home, but she never arrived.
Police inquiries later established that a person matching Elizabeth’s description was seen walking along Vernon Circle and Commonwealth Avenue between 9:00pm and 9:45pm. Elizabeth has not been seen or heard from since.
More than four decades later, her disappearance remains one of the ACT’s long-term missing persons cases. To mark National Missing Persons Week, ACT Policing has commissioned local artist Harriet Mitchell to paint a portrait of Elizabeth as she appeared when she went missing. The portrait is exhibited at the Tuggeranong Arts Centre, to help raise awareness of Elizabeth’s disappearance and encourage anyone with information to come forward.
